The Christmas period can be particularly challenging for people suffering from mental health difficulties. It’s particularly difficult to feel festive when you’re spending Christmas in hospital.
That’s why for Christmas 2017, Headlight provided funding for a whole host of extras – more than our Charitable Funds has ever been able to provide before. We worked with staff on wards, as well as Involvement Co-ordinators, to enhance the experience for the patients in our hospitals this Christmas.
Headlight contributed around £10,000 - this provided a £10 gift for each inpatient, a petty cash allowance for wards to buy treats, nibbles and other festive extras. We were also able to provide a stockpile of Christmas trees, decorations and seasonal activities to brighten the wards.
The feedback we’ve had from the wards has been really positive and we’re thrilled staff were about to use the funds to make the festive period a more pleasurable time for Service Users staying in hospital!
Michael Stynes, Matron at our Callington Road Hospital said “This has filled us with festive cheer. The last few years have been a real struggle and our staff have even dipped into their own pockets. You’ve helped us provide a better Christmas for those on our wards”
We’d like to thank everyone who helped us raise money for our Christmas Fund, whether by baking, jumper wearing, turkey naming or simply donating. We are lucky to have such generous supporters and with your help we’re looking forward to an even bigger and better Christmas in 2018.
